Position: . Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning Officer

Location: Syria-Hassake Governorate

Period of Assignment: 1 August 2026 - 31 May 2027 (or as agreed)

Fight for Humanity:

Founded in March 2019, Fight for Humanity is a Swiss-based non-governmental organization that seeks to reinforce respect for the rights of people exposed to human rights abuses in situations of violence and conflict. It currently implements programs in the Middle East on child protection, the protection of cultural heritage, and peace and social cohesion.

Role:

The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer will track the progress and impact of project activities in the Northeast of Syria, ensuring goals are met, while assuring the accountability and learning of the organization. This role involves collecting and analyzing project data, preparing reports, supporting the project team, and interacting with project partners and beneficiaries. They support the implementation of Fight for Humanity’s work in Syria and particularly in the Northeast.

Responsibilities:

Develop, update, and maintain MEAL frameworks, tools and methods to monitor and assess project activities and impacts.

Gather data according to those frameworks, tools, and methods, ensure data quality, and analyze it to assess project performance.

Conduct monitoring visits during the project implementation to areas and places where activities take place.

Prepare simple and clear reports on project progress, outcomes, and challenges and contributing to donor reports according to the required formats.

In support of the Project Coordinator and relevant partner staff, ensure that activities undertaken in the Northeast of Syria follow organizational policies and donor guidelines, notably the Fight for Humanity Code of Conduct, the Child Safeguarding Code, the Safeguarding policy, the Protection Against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy, the Anti-Corruption policy, and any other relevant policies and procedures.

Work with project teams, including relevant local partner staff, to gather feedback from stakeholders and beneficiaries, ensuring proper feedback loops and responsiveness.

Document and share lessons learned and good practices to improve future projects.

Help identify potential risks to implementation, accountability and compliance, and suggest ways to mitigate and prevent them.

Support travel arrangements for Geneva-based staff and other resource people.

Any other duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

Conditions :

Based in Qamishli, in the Northeast of Syria

Full-time

~950 USD per month, based on experience

Direct reporting line to the Project Coordinator in the Northeast of Syria and coordination with the M&E Manager in Geneva.

This position is for a fixed term of 10 months, with a high possibility of extension, based on the availability of resources.

Requirements:

At least 2 years of experience in project monitoring and conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

At least 1 year of experience from ensuring project accountability and compliance with donor requirements.

Prior experience with international projects and/or organizations, including INGOs.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, or comparable tools for MEAL such as KoBo Toolbox.

Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and ethical standards.

Motivated, knowledgeable, and with good communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and team skills.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing project circumstances.

Proven ability to learn quickly and be accountable for results.

Good verbal and written communication skills in English and excellent levels of Arabic and Kurdish.

Experience from protection or social cohesion/peacebuilding work is an asset.
