Fight for Humanity:

Founded in March 2019, Fight for Humanity is a Swiss-based non-governmental organization that seeks to reinforce respect for the rights of people exposed to human rights abuses in situations of violence and conflict. ​It currently implements programs in the Middle East on child protection, the protection of cultural heritage, and peace and social cohesion. 

Role:

Fight for Humanity is looking for a Gender and Protection Advisor to provide technical support to its work with partners in Syria. The consultant will provide technical advice, programme support, capacity strengthening, quality assurance and strategic input to a project on youth resilience and protection. The Gender and Protection Advisor ensures that all project components adhere to the Do No Harm principle, integrate trauma-informed and gender-responsive methodologies, and safely mitigate risk factors associated with youth radicalisation and recruitment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a Gender, Diversity and Protection risk analysis to identify the specific drivers of vulnerability and radicalisation for young men and young women in the areas targeted by the project, as well as any hinders for their participation in the project. 

  • Lead the implementation of Safeguarding, Child Protection and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) policies across all training venues, dialogue spaces, and partner facilities, in coordination with the CARM Officer. 

  • Review project curricula (PSS, soft skills, and vocational modules) to ensure they are age-appropriate, gender-sensitive, non-stigmatising, and conflict-sensitive. 

  • Ensure programme designs are consistent with Fight for Humanity’s overall strategy, available evidence and the local context. 

  • Advise project staff on integrating gender-sensitive pathways into PSS activities and specialized referral mechanisms. 

  • Work with vocational training leads to eliminate barriers preventing young women and marginalized groups from accessing technical training and employment support. 

  • Embed modules on non-violent communication, emotional regulation, positive masculinity, and gender equality into the core soft skills curriculum. 

  • Support the project team to establish protection standards for youth dialogue sessions to ensure safe, confidential, and inclusive participation for everyone. 

  • As appropriate, engage with families and communities to understand and mitigate hinders for young women to participate in project activities.  

  • Develop specialized dialogue framing that addresses gendered recruitment tactics used by radical groups (e.g., exploitation of economic frustration, hyper-masculinity, or social isolation). 

  • Standardize confidential referral pathways for youth displaying severe trauma, risk of self-harm, or active exploitation/recruitment dynamics. 

  • Facilitate capacity-building workshops for staff, local trainers, and community leaders on protection principles, gender integration, and trauma-informed youth engagement. 

  • Collaborate with the MEAL team and the and CARM Officer to establish and implement gender-disaggregated indicators, protection risk monitoring tools, and confidential feedback/complaint mechanisms. 

  • Support the use of appropriate contextual and gender analysis in programme design. 

  • Assist in defining teamwork and partnership approaches with other organizations, as required. 

  • Actively participate in relevant project meetings. 

  • Use technical expertise to provide guidance, advice and support as required. 

 

Deliverables:  

  • Comprehensive Gender, Diversity and Protection analysis 

  • Project-wide guidelines, referral mapping, and PSEAH/safeguarding protocols tailored to project locations. 

  • Reviewed training curriculum with relevant recommendations for PSS, soft skills, and vocational training modules. 

  • Inclusion and safety guidance for youth dialogue sessions. 

  • Regular updates on protection risks, referral tracking, and lessons-learned briefs, as relevant. 

  • Technical input into programme indicators and monitoring approaches. 

  • Technical guidance, mentoring and capacity-building support for programme staff. 

  • Updates to relevant protection and PSEAH tools, resources and contextualized materials, as needed. 

  • Technical contributions to project meetings. 

  • Contributions to research, learning, evidence generation and dissemination. 

Conditions: 

  • The consultancy is for the period 1 September 2026 to 31 May 2027. 

  • The work will be undertaken remotely/online. 1, 100 EUR per month, based on experience.  

  • Direct reporting to Fight for Humanity Co-Director in Geneva.  

  • This position is for a fixed term of 9 months, with a high possibility of extension, based on the availability of resources 

Required Qualifications and Experience : 

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, International Development, Social Work, Human Rights, Political Science, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in protection mainstreaming, gender integration, intersectionality, GBV or conflict-sensitive programming. 

  • Proven expertise in supporting youth protection, PSS, and Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism efforts. 

  • Experience in programme and project design and technical quality assurance. 

  •  Experience in training, mentoring and technical capacity strengthening. 

  •  Knowledge and experience in gender, intersectionality, and contextual analysis. 

  • Understanding of women’s protection and empowerment programming. 

  • Strong communication, analytical and technical advisory skills. 

  •  Ability to provide effective remote technical support to programme teams. 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and excellent levels of Arabic and Kurdish.    

  • Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and ethical standards.   

  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.   

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing project circumstances.   

 

Preferred experiences and skills: 

  • Work experience from international projects and/or with international organizations or INGOs 

  • Good understanding of the Iraqi local and community mechanisms, 

  • Good knowledge of social cohesion, mediation, and local peace agreement. 

  • Experience in security management
